Skyrim may come to Wii U

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on September - 25 - 2011

Interested in playing Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the upcoming Wii U? That may very well be a possibility according to a statement by a Bethesda Executive.

In Skyrim news today we learn that Pete Hines, Vice President of marketing at Bethesda Studios, got with Official Nintendo Magazine to announce that the highly anticipated Elder Scrolls V Skyrim release may also be made available on the Nintendo platform, in addition to the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC platforms.

Hines goes on to say, It’s definitely a possibility for the future. We’ll look at any platform that will support… games we’re trying to make, but that’s the key thing – the console has to support the game as it is designed.”

The Bethesda Executive also mentioned that it would be a difficult task to take on not only because of the difference in platform, but because the game would also need to be tested in multiple languages.

“The more changes we have to make to a game the less and less palatable it becomes because making a game is an enormous process. Just doing 360, PS3 and PC – I don’t think people understand the amount of work that goes into that. All of the localisation you have to do… all of the testing you have to do… on every platform in every language… It’s a pretty huge undertaking.”

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is presently undergoing development for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3. It currently scheduled to be released worldwide on November 11, 2011.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Rated “M”

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on September - 20 - 2011

In Skyrim news today we learn that Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is officially rated “Mature” by the ESRB for the U.S marketplace. Of course this is only an advisory as there will be undoubtedly be teens around the world enjoying the high resolution blood splatter and decapitations that will be present in the storyline throughout the game.

Aside from just bloody graphic material, you can expect lots of alcohol, tavern scenes, sex talk, and all of the other content that makes the game an appeal for most gamers. A few game details were slipped by the rating announcement that tells us precisely why the game received the rating.

Check this out:

“As players engage in melee-style combat, some sequences are highlighted by slow-motion effects, particularly for decapitations. Large blood-splatter effects also occur during combat, and some environments are stained with blood or body parts (e.g., heads impaled on spikes). Some sequences allow players to injure/kill nonadversary characters, including prisoners chained to a wall; they scream in pain amid splashes of blood or fire.

“As the game progresses, the dialogue and on-screen text contains references to sexual material (e.g., “. . . all the whores your heart, or any other organ, desires,” “She . . . raped the men as cruelly as Bal had ravished her,” and “Remember when you thought [he] was . . . intent on making you . . . into his personal sex slave?”).

“Alcohol such as wine, mead, and ale can be purchased and consumed by players’ character throughout the game; and in one sequence, players can engage in a drinking contest with another character, which eventually results in slurred speech.”

As a result of this announcement, it also became official Skyrim news via a tweet by Peter Hines that decapitation will be an available perk as you progress your character in Skyrim.

What say you? Do you think the violence should have been toned down for a Rated T rating or do you say, “Bring on the heads on spikes and decapitation!”

Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Falmer in Skyrim? Read this Skyrim News..

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on September - 4 - 2011

New Skyrim news is pouring in like water in a flood. If you’ve been wondering if you would see Falmer in Skyrim, sources have confirmed that you will definitely see Falmer whilst your traveling the word of Tamriel.

A PAX journalist issued this news in a report during another hands on demo session and had this to say about it:

“As the fight moves on we face Falmer, “twisted, evil creatures that dwell in Skyrim’s deepest reaches” and which basically look like goblins wearing spider’s faces as helmets, we move more into melee.”

This might come as a frusturation for some die hard Elder Scrolls fans who have always considered Falmer to be a difficult to find and impressive race. Unfortunately, it sounds like Falmer would only be another generic goblin-model sort of sword fodder.

This is definitely not what fans wanted to hear regarding the mysterious race.

If we are lucky, we’ll come to find out some new lore surrounding the fabled Falmer race and some deep and interested story lines full of intricate artifacts, ruins, dungeons, books, and more.

What are your thoughts? Do you have delusions of grandeur about the Falmer race? Or are you OK if they aren’t at all important?

Read more about the Falmer over at Elder Scrolls Wikia.

Skyrim has a set release date of 11/11/11.

Skyrim Perks : Pickpocketing Perk Tree Released

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on September - 3 - 2011

STOP! THIEF!

Pickpocketing is certainly one of the oldest and funnest past time skills in The Elder Scrolls. Who doesn’t love the Thieves Guild and it’s unique following? Pickpocketing is a must have for every rogue fan – and I know there are a lot of you.

It excites me enormously to know they’ve actually taken the skill to a whole new levels. In Skyrim news today, you’ll be excited to find out that the perk-tree for pickpocketing has been released. Initially, it seems like there are some difficulty factors based on the size and weight of an object. That’s great. But aside from that, let’s get to the grit. Let’s see some PERKS!

[Light Fingers 0/5] Reduces the influence weight and value of items has on your chance of successfully pickpocket an item

[Night Thief] Pickpocketing unconcious/sleeping NPC works almost every time

[Poisoned] Silently place poison in other peoples pockets in order to harm or kill

[Cutpurse] Pickpocketing gold is 50% easier

[Extra Pockets] Carrying capacity is increased by 100

[Keymaster] Pickpocketing keys always works

[Misdirections] You can pickpocket equipped weapons

[Perfect Touch] You can pickpocket equipped items

I think perks in an Elder Scrolls game is a fantastic idea. Anybody who has spent time in one of the Fallout games by Bethesda would definitely agree and wonder why perks weren’t in Oblivion or Morrowind.

Thieves everywhere rejoice!! Pickpocketing perks are coming your way.

Elder Scrolls MMO? Not According to Todd Howard

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on September - 2 - 2011

If you often visit the official Elder Scrolls Forums, you’ll see a hot topic of conversation..

“Will there be an Elder Scrolls MMO???”

That’s a resounding NO according to Bethesda boss Todd Howard.

The enormously detailed worlds, extensive history and well crafted race choices would seem a definite money maker  and also an exciting and immerse multi-player experience. In fact, you’d almost think that Bethesda would see this as a giant pile of gold waiting to be “clicked” on…

Unfortunately that isn’t the plan and Todd Howard has openly rejected the ideas of there ever being an online game set in the world of Tamriel. In a recent interview he strongly noted:

“I’m not really an MMO guy. I respect them, I look at them, but I don’t play them. It feels more real to me when I’m the hero and it’s crafted for that. A community aspect to it, I recognise a lot of people would want that in a game like this, but it changes the flavour for me.”

Personally, I think it’s foolish not to at least consider the idea. I’ve enjoyed a lot of quality MMO’s over the years and there isn’t anything more prolific then a wall made and well balanced MMORPG.  Not that it wouldn’t spark the same debate every other MMORPG has – is it better than World of Warcraft? Who knows what Todd Howard is thinking.

How about you? Do you love your MMO’s as much as your single player experience? Are you sad or happy to hear the news that there will never be a multiplayer Elder Scrolls experience?

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Exclusive Hands On Preview

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on August - 21 - 2011

We have two exclusive articles written by Andrew Reiner of Game Informer and Maxwell McGee of GameSpot including full-blown previews and in-depth hands on articles of their Skyrim gameplay testing.

“After years of waiting, the next installment of The Elder Scrolls finally lands in our hands. Follow my journey from Riverwood to Whiterun.

As we mentioned in yesterday’s quick look at the QuakeCon Skyrim demo, my experience started in the character creator. My Twitter followers wanted to know about the Argonian race, the reptilian race that hails from the Black Marsh swampland. This race looks much like it did in Oblivion and Morrowind, with green scaled skin that sometimes gives off a bluish tint, and yellow, cat-like eyes. For my character, however, I chose the cat-like Khajiit race. The level of customization with this race was impressive. I could alter the eyeliner, change the color of the speckles on the nose, add earrings, and even apply a hairdo on top of my Khajiit’s furry dome. As in the previous games, the Khajiit have long, humanoid-like legs and a tail.

My journey started with my character bound in a dreary cave, which Todd Howard said is roughly 30 minutes after the start of the game. When I exited the cave I immediately equipped a destruction spell on one hand and a restoration spell on the other. The button layout is very similar to the previous Elder Scrolls games. The X button sheathes and unsheathes your weapon, the B button gives you access to the menu system, the Y button jumps, the A button interacts, and pressing L3 triggers stealth mode.

While the general controls are familiar, the cEldombat controls have evolved considerably. If you have shield equipped you can bash enemies with it to cause them to stagger, opening them up for attack. If you hold down the attack button with a melee weapon, you trigger a powerful attack that is often accompanied by a cool animation. When I stabbed a wolf with this attack, my character drove the sword deep into the beast and then used the shield as leverage to pry the sword out of the dead animal. You also must actively block oncoming attacks.

The spells also have varying attacks. As I walked down a path toward the village of Riverwood, I spotted two wolves on a nearby hill. When they caught my scent they came charging down the hill and I met them with a powerful flamethrower attack by holding down the spell button. It didn’t take long to burn these gorgeous animals, which look much more lifelike than the animals in Oblivion.

Since Riverwood was in the previous Skyrim demos, I didn’t spend much time in the village. Instead I headed north alongside a babbling stream that had salmon jumping out of the water and stumbled upon a small farm populated by a cow and hen. I watched the hen for a bit as it walked around aimlessly while clucking, and then stole the egg that was sitting in its nest.

I then made my way into the farmhouse, which only took a couple of seconds to load. Judging from the spread on his table – goat cheese and Nord mead – this farmer is living the good life. When I went back outside I met a woman named Sigrid, whose first words to me were “I’m spoken for, don’t get any ideas.” She kept on farming while telling me about herself and her daughter. After she shared five or so details, she started delivering the canned responses of “Yes?”, “Good Afternoon”, and “What do you need?”

Leaving Sigrid and the farm behind, I made my way further north to a large murky river. I could have crossed using a bridge, but I decided to test out the swimming instead. The animations are a little rough, but as I swam across to the other bank I was able to grab a few salmon as they passed by. Who needs a fishing rod when you can just grab them with your fist? As I approached the bank I saw a large elk wade into the river. When I moved in too close for the beast’s comfort, he made a run for it.

Continuing down the path on the other side of the river, I stumbled across a group of Stormcloak soldiers escorting a prisoner. When I approached the group a hostile soldier blurted out, “Citizen, I’m warning you.” Then I was presented three of choices. I could do nothing, free the prisoner, or free the prisoner and give him an item, which I assumed in this case would be a weapon so he could defend himself against his captors. Considering that there were three guards with their swords drawn and I was a mere level one character, I opted to stay out of it. As soon as I moved away, the soldiers returned their weapons to their sheathes.

Heading north again, I ran into another farm. This was a much bigger plot of land, with several gardens. In the middle of this farm a group of three humans were battling a massive giant. Rather than joining the fray, I decided to just sit back and watch. The battle raged back and forth, but eventually the humans prevailed. Afterwards I met Alea the huntress and her sidekicks Farkas and Ria. My first interaction with her was a statement about the battle – I could say “You don’t look like you need any help,” or “I tried to help.” When I chose the flattering option, she thanked me and explained that her band was a part of the Shield-Brothers. I was then prompted to inquire about joining the group or wryly responding “Sounds like a waste of time.” Alea told me that if I wanted to join the group I would have to ask the leader of the Companions.

After going our separate ways, I ventured north again, picking items like lavender and tundra cotton on my way toward…

Bethesda Reveals Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim Collector’s Edition

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on August - 6 - 2011

Skyrim Collectors EditionOh. My. Skyrim.

Bethesda made it’s latest earth shattering announcement – they will be releasing an extremely limited edition version of Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim.

A collector’s edition !!!!

This is quite possibly the most massive collector’s edition any video game has ever seen. What does it include? Let’s take an in-depth look at what is CE masterpiece edition of Skyrim has to offer.

Beat the crowds and get Diablo(R) III before anyone else.

First off, let’s answer the obvious questions.

Is a collector’s edition available on multiple platforms?

YES. The Skyrim Collector’s edition will be available on the PC, Xbox 360, and the PS3.

When will the Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim Collector’s Edition be available?

The CE release date will fall in line with the Skyrim release date which is currently scheduled for November 11th, 2011.

So, what the heck is so awesome about this extra special collector’s edition?

  • A Statue of Alduin. A mastercrafted 12″ statue modeled from 3D art from the Elder Scrolls V in-game graphics.
  • Skyrim Art. A beautifully made 200 page fully illustrated coffee table book (9 3/8″ x 12 1/8″) which will have a huge variety of Skyrim art such as weapons, characters, wild life, and terrain.
  • A special “Making of Skyrim” DVD which will include special behind-the-scenes video and exclusive interviews with Bethesda developers and staff who provide never before seen interviews about Skyrim gameplay, story, settings, lore, and the creation of the entire Elder Scrolls series.

Sounds pretty great, huh? Unfortunately, the collector’s edition doesn’t come without sacrifice. The expected retail price for this special edition of Skyrim will come at an unheard of price tag of $150.

No pain, no gain though, right?

Regardless of the surprising price, chances are I’ll be updating my pre-order shortly to get my hands on these special goodies!

Skyrim in 3D? Not according to this Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim News

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on July - 26 - 2011

Elder Scrolls V Skyrim 3DLong time Elder Scrolls fans are searching everywhere for the latest and greatest news about the biggest and hottest release of the year: Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim.

In recent Skyrim News, Todd Howard (Bethesda Director) came out of the woodwork to address a point many fans may have been quite curious about, and one that has really been teeter tottering around the video game world as everyone waits to see what new technologies will mark the future of console and PC gaming.

Will there be 3D in Skyrim?

Beat the crowds and get Diablo(R) III before anyone else.

According to a new interview by PSM3 magazine, Howard strongly and quickly shot down the idea of 3D being a possibility for the new Elder Scrolls title.

“Honestly, I couldn’t care less – having to wear those glasses! I’m not a 3D fan. It ruins the image for me,” Todd said.

Immediately after that statement, he went on to mention that he wants one thing, and one thing only from a creation like Elder Scrolls V.

“Clarity.”

Will we ever see 3D prevalent in 3D games? Only time will tell. When Todd was what his thoughts were on the future of 3D in video gaming he responded by saying “I think everyone’s going to keep trying,” he said. “But I’m not sure.”

Howard then continues to say that all he wants from a game’s graphics is “clarity.” PSM3 go on to talk about the future of 3D in games, and ask if he thinks it will stick around for the long run. “I think everyone’s going to keep trying,” he said. “But I’m not sure.”

This is a resounding debate among video games. What do you think? Should developers and gaming companies be putting forth more effort to include and standardize 3D into every day gaming? I mean, we see this technology blowing up in the movie and TV market after fans were blown away with realistic eye-popping 3D in movie titles like “Avatar” and the “Twilight” series.

We think it will only be a matter of time before 3D becomes standard, in the movies AND on the game scene the same way HD took over markets when it went mainstream. Consumers are always looking for the latest and greatest things, and video gamers more than anyone are looking for that next level of ultra fantasy immersion.

Do you agree with Todd’s decision? Or do you think Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim should have pushed harder to incorporate 3D technology.

Personally, I would have loved to see it included. After quite a few overpriced movie tickets purchased this past year to go see the latest and greatest movie releases in 3D, I’ve become quite fond of watching movies with the latest state of the art 3D filming. On the flip side, I don’t really know if I could sit and play for hours with those glasses on, especially on a 100+ hour title like Elder Scrolls V.

Following the timeline for releases of Elder Scrolls games, I’d say it’s at least a worthwhile bet that we will see an Elder Scrolls VI title released for the Xbox 720, PS4, or PC that will at least have a 3D option.

Todd Howard is just like anyone else. Resistant to change! But perhaps he or future Bethesda developers will be able to find that balance between “Clarity” and new display standards. For now, it’s a safe bet we wont be seeing Elder Scrolls V Skyrim 3D on shelves later this year.

Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim is currently scheduled for release on November 11th, 2011.

No Demo for Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim [Video Interview]

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on July - 17 - 2011

Skyrim / Bethesda Producer Craig LaffertyIt’s no mystery that Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim is one of the most anticipated RPG releases of 2011. Unfortunately for skeptics and testers, Bethesda has announced there will be no demo for the upcoming title release.

Bethesda Producer Craig Lafferty made a statement in a video interview with Gameplanet that Skyrim is just too complex and vast to make a demo for and that a demo couldn’t represent the game in a positive way.

“With a game this size and complexity it’s really hard to do a demo that represents the game truly, and it would be a gigantic demo as well. So, we’re not doing a demo.” (See the whole interview below!)

The news doesn’t particularly come as a surprise. The last time we saw a demo for a title in the Elder Scrolls series was back in 1996 with the release of Daggerfall. Bethesda’s other non-linear “open world” titles also went demoless, such as Fallout 3.

Still, with the cutting edge developments in graphics and engines it would have been nice to have a platform to test or benchmark the game for PC enthusiasts seeking compatibility or maximum FPS.

The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim is headed to several platforms later this year. Watch for Skyrim to hit shelves for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 11, 2011

Hot Skyrim News! Skyrim Fan Interview RELEASED!

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on July - 8 - 2011

Bethesda Skyrim News InterviewThis week was a huge week with a major leak of awesome Skyrim news coming STRAIGHT from the Elder Scrolls V Game Director, Lead Designer, and Lead Artist. See What Todd, Bruce, and Matt write to us in this sweet interview.

Skyrim Fan Interview
Todd Howard, Game Director
Bruce Nesmith, Lead Designer
Matt Carofano, Lead Artist

1) Can the character shapeshift into different creatures?

Todd: “We’ve done various things like that in our previous games, and it’s something that we probably won’t be talking about specifically on this one. Don’t read anything into that, we just prefer to not discuss this one. We’d like to leave that an open question until the game is out. ”

2) I want to customize my avatar. What sorts of options, like facial hair, tattoos, or body size changes are available? Will we be able to change them later in the game?

Matt: “There is large amount of customization available for each race. You can choose from multiple hair styles, beards, scars, and face paint. Each race and gender has a light and heavy build and you can pick any level in between. We’ve completely redone our facial system, and we’re really excited to show off the results.”

3) Is armor handled like in Oblivion (with each body part being welded together) or in Morrowind (with each body part separate)? Will you be able to wear both clothes and armor at the same time?

Matt: “The armor system is very similar to Oblivion’s. The main difference is that the upper and lower body armors, the cuirass and greaves, have been combined into one piece. This helps create armor styles that have the look we needed for Skyrim. In most of the Nordic designs we created, the upper armor would completely cover the lower armor, making it unnecessary. We get much better visual results combining those pieces, and it renders a lot faster too, so we can put more people on screen, so that was an easy tradeoff for us. We can also make a lot more armors now, so the number and variation types are more than we’ve ever had.”

4) Are the main and faction quests branching or linear? What about side quests?

Bruce: “We’ve focused on telling one story well. There are decision points in all the quest lines that can change things, but overall it’s a single story. Because the side quests are smaller stories, they are more likely to have major branches. For example, you can decide to save or betray someone, which changes the whole end of the quest. Overall the quest structure in Skyrim is closer to Oblivion than Fallout 3, in that there are many more quests, but they have fewer branches.”

5) Are loot and quest rewards level scaled, like in Oblivion? Will there be any powerful un-scaled items?

Bruce: “We’re handling leveling stuff similar to how we did in Fallout 3, but with a few new twists that we hope players won’t even notice. The enemies and loot are based on the “encounter zone” you’re in, so it could be higher or lower level than your current level. We do have a new concept of epic or “special” loot that you can randomly find in many cases, regardless of the zone, and you will still get better stuff in the better zones with your level higher. Same goes for quest rewards. We try to make them appropriate for what you did. Sometimes that is random, sometimes that is a set item. There’s a lot of specific stuff that is very powerful, like the Daedric artifacts.”

6) Will items present in Morrowind but not in Oblivion, such as spears, medium armor, and mark/recall spells, be making a return?

Todd: “They are not in Skyrim for the same reasons we didn’t include them in Oblivion. I’ll address each one. First spears, the truth is we’d love to do them, but it becomes a priority and development time thing for us. We feel it’s better to spend our time right now making sure the gameplay for the other play styles is really solid. That includes sword, sword and shield, two-handed weapons, and bows. You can also add magic to that list. Getting those all working well together, while feeling different, is our priority.

As far as medium armor, that’s not a time or polish thing, it’s a design choice to focus on two armor types and making sure those feel different and the player appreciates them. We try to make your character move and feel different between light and heavy and having a 3rd one in the middle just muddies it up in how it plays, as well as visually. And even now, we still have to tweak those two armor types so they feel different, while remaining fun. Every time we slow down heavy armor more, it feels bad, but it’s the main way of balancing it. We’ve added other ways of balancing it that feel right—like different stamina drain rates when sprinting and such.

Mark and recall is one where it’s a lot of fun, but like levitation, was removed so we could design better gameplay spaces and scenarios. We were really limited in Morrowind because the player could recall or levitate out of many situations and break them. There was a lot of good gameplay and level design work that we just couldn’t do and now we can. Back then it seemed like many good ideas we had were shot down when another designer would say “oh yeah, I just levitate or recall away.” So we got rid of them.”

7) Will we be able to have relationships with the NPCs, romantic or otherwise?

Bruce: “Absolutely! You make friends with people by doing things for them. Friends in the game will treat you differently. Some of them will even agree to go with you into dungeons and on adventures. You can even get married. If you own a house, your…

Fan Article: From Arena to Skyrim

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on July - 4 - 2011

Elder Scrolls Enthusiast Jack Tabb writes into ElderScrollV.com with some thoughts on Skyrim combat mechanics.

Original Elder Scrolls Arena“From Arena to Oblivion, concepts of RPG combat has been outclassed with each installment of The Elder Scrolls. With the upcoming sequel Skyrim people like myself are waiting to see how the evolution of TES combat will be defined by Oblivion and it’s predecessors.
Disregard the type of combat that defines your character such as spells, perks, dual wielding, or enchantments. We are considering the simplest forms of combat – the simple trading of blows.

In Morrowind, when your character would strike his/her opponent there would be a dice roll that would determine whether you would hit the enemy or miss the enemy. This became rather bothersome while facing higher-level foes, for how were you supposed to defeat an enemy with your silver dagger while your short blade level hovered only above 18? In Oblivion the combat was changed to be very productive yet crude. Your character could hack away at an enemy to take its health – But that’s just it. In retrospect, all we did was hack. You beat the pulp out of them and hope not to lose too much health. Spells, enchantments, and poisons added depth to the combat but in the end you simply waited for the enemy to fall backwards, dead. It shouldn’t take a gazillion sword slashes to defeat a foe, but it sure did.

Skyrim looks hopeful. From what I have seen, Skyrim will change the face of TES combat, and then it will hopefully redefine the most simplistic form of it, “the trading of blows”. Now I can make only make deductions on the basics of battle in Skyrim, but it seems to be a lot more complex and this case – complex is good. Besides the damage calculations, dual wields, and perks, the look of the fighting style in Skyrim tends to be more natural. Your character swings with precision, and in some cases even looks like a seasoned swordsmen that can strike into the foe, not just randomly, but in places were more damage would be induced. After several strokes and when approaching the kill, your character will perform kill moves. These deadly moves seem to also come naturally. These finales match your swordplay and probably are used after a combo of some sorts. Now besides kill moves and being able to thrust your sword or swing your axe with precision, Bethesda has made the fighting sequences a lot more captivating. The player will no longer be able to just run backwards quickly to the nearest NPC or city guard, so they can have help when dealing with the higher-level foes. When fighting an opponent in Skyrim your avatar will be locked into combat, and the only chance of fleeing is sprinting as fast as you can the other direction. No longer will you be able to flee and fight at the same time with the lightning fast backtracking. All of the Elder Scrolls titles have been groundbreaking when it comes to battle and skirmishes. In that context, I am hoping to see that Skyrim quakes the very ground that RPG combat stands upon.”

Skyrim Release Date in Danger

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on June - 28 - 2011

There is some potentially upsetting news for Skyrim fans everywhere this week as a result of this most recent rumor and development.

Wedbush Morgan Securities Skyrim Release Date May Be Delayed Until February 2012analyst Michael Pachter said in an a recent interview with CVG that he believes that Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim is one of two game titles that may say a release date push back to February 2012.

Beat the crowds and get Diablo(R) III before anyone else.

Pachter stated, “The only ones that have any risk are Skyrim and Saint’s Row. The former because Bethesda will launch when it’s ready, and it won’t hurt the game to move into February; the latter a very low probability, since it looks close to complete, and because THQ needs it in the holiday quarter, but given reviews on Homefront, they may choose to delay for more polish.””

Analysts like Pachter believe that because there are so many high profile titles being released in the November time frame, that Bethesda would have nothing to lose by pushing back the release date three months for a polished release and a less competitive market.

Other fourth quarter 2012 titles include Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary, Need for Speed: The Run, Uncharted 3, Modern Warfare 3, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, , Saints Row, Diablo 3, and Guild Wars II.

If the release date is pushed back, what will you do? Will you buy one of these other titles in the meantime or wait it out for the Elder Scrolls???

The current release date for Elder Scrolls V Skyrim is 11/11/11.

New Interview! BIG DLCs planned for Skyrim

Skyrim DLC Todd Howard Interview

If there wasn’t already enough reason to get your hands on a copy of Elder Scrolls V Skyrim for your console, then now you have absolutely no excuse.

A new interview with Bethesda’s Executive Producer took place this week with a gaming group called ausgamers. The interview came as a pleasant surprised to Elder Scrolls fans everywhere as some neat new tid bits of information were released about the upcoming Skyrim release.

The DLC’s for Skyrim will be fewer in number, but the content included will be substantial.

The details or specifics for the DLC are still unknown, at this stage of pre-release I would be curious if the developers themselves knew yet.

If you played Oblivion and are up-to-date on the previous title’s DLC you would know there was only one substantial release (Besides the Shivering Isles expansion) called Knights of the Nine. The DLC for Skyrim will add an additional 15+ hours of game play to the title, if the included 300 hours isn’t enough for you.

There was other good news in this interview besides just DLC info. Bethesda has made the choice to allow your player character to continue playing and exploring the world after completion of the game. Bethesda made the mistake of not including this functionality in some of it’s previous titles (think Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas) and based on some overwhelmingly unhappy fans, it’s a relief to know we can count on never-ending exploration post-game.

Skyrim Preorder Bonus Offers Premium Map

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on June - 23 - 2011

Good news for my fellow Skyrim preorderers!

An official post from Bethesda rep Nick Breckon announced that a premium map would ship with the preorder version of Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, “The map is a high-grade material that has a feel similar to burlap, and will be available in North America and Europe”.

I’ve always liked getting these sort of maps in other RPG’s. Something about these maps really gives off a strong fantasy feel. It’s as if you are really in Skyrim and you can reference your map to say, “Oh yeah, Solitude! I need to go south to get there.”

The map will be available in North America and Europe for all preorders.

Why not preorder today and guarantee your premium burlap map??

Skyrim? What is it?

Posted by Elderscroll Admin on June - 22 - 2011

Skyrim MapSkyrim.

Sure, we know it’s the games title. We may know a little bit here and there about what Skyrim is. Let’s clear up the confusion and lets hit the Elder Scroll’s history books so you know exactly what you are getting into before stepping foot into the Skyrim region.

Skyrim is actually a province. For our Canadian readers this will concept will come as a simple one to understand. For our non-provincial US readers who are unfamiliar with provinces, it is kind of like a State. In all, there are nine separate provinces (states) on thSkyrim Norde continent which generally have their own native races.

The continent is called Tamriel. As mentioned above there are nine total provinces on Tamriel:

  • High Rock – Home of the Orsimer and Bretons (Orcs)
  • Cyrodiil – Home of the Imperials and is also the Capital. Home to the Emperor.
  • Summerset Isles – Home of the Altmer (High Elves)
  • Hammerfell – Home of the Redguards
  • Blackmarsh – Home of the Argonians
  • Valenwood – Home of the Bosmer (Wood Elves)
  • Elsweyr – Home of the Khajiit (Kerra or Cat Folk)
  • Morrowind – Home of the Dunmer (Dark Elves)
  • SkyrimHome of the Nords (Tall Humans / Barbarian)

So now the light bulb is starting to turn on. Skyrim is a province on Tamriel and is home to the nordic people that have sort of been referred to as Barbarians in other games or RPG’s.

Where do you usually find these kind of rough-cut fellows? That’s right. You always find them in the cold, or in the mountains, or in icy tundras.

Skyrim follows that theme. Don’t expect to be greeted by a warm tropical paradise. Skyrim is largely mountainous and is very, very cold. Expect lots of snow covered land and tough terrain. With this arctic climate you can expect to encounter lots of cold loving creatures and critters. Expect enormous mammoths, sabretooth tigers, yetis, and likely frost dragons.

The Skyrim province is about 16 miles wide and 16 miles long and is comparable with Oblivions game world/province Cyrodiil in overall size. There are five major cities within the province (larger than cities you may have encountered in Cyrodiil) along with some highly regarded geographic landmarks.

While exploring Skyrim you’ll want to be sure to stop and visit these places. Once visited in game you will be able to fast travel back and forth once you’ve visited a new marked location:

  • Windhelma city in Northeast Skyrim
  • Dawnstara city in North Skyrim
  • Whiteruna city in East Skyrim
  • Markarth Sidea city in West Skyrim
  • Falkreatha city in South Skyrim
  • Winterholda county of rich individuals
  • Solitudethe most influential and richest county in Skyrim that competes with Winterhold
  • High Hrothgara famous mountain where Greybeards speak and teach the dragon language.

Much of the architecture and buildings will resemble what you may have seen in Bruma. Buildings built into the terrain for insulation from the arctic weather and fortified with wood, stones, and straw.

Skyrim Style House

So how does your player fit in with all of this? Well, you will start off your Skyrim adventure as a prisoner who is on the way to be executed. Along the way you’ll figure out that the civil war that has been wracking Skyrim is actually a prophecy – a prophecy that is in one of the fabled Elder Scrolls.

What did the scroll and prophecy say? Trouble.

It turns out, the Nordic God of Destruction named Alduin would return during the war. His come back wouldn’t be insignificant either. He’s coming back with a vengeance – as a giant dragon. The Scrolls say that during his return he will take over the world and enslave it’s populace with an army of black dragons called the Jills.

The good news is that your player character finds out he is actually a Dragon Born – someone who can speak the language of the dragons (Draconic) and wield the impressive power (Dragon Shouts) that comes with it. Powers like teleporting, time control, and dragon summoning.

It’s up to you to interrupt the prophecy.

What will you do????? Will you rescue Skyrim or wreak havoc on it’s people?

The choice is yours.
